All Set for Houston's "Official" 4th of July Celebration

HOUSTON – Mayor Sylvester Turner and the Mayor’s Office of Special Events finalize details for Houston’s official Fourth of July celebration on Shell Freedom Over Texas.

The main stage will feature the most successful country music star, Chris Young. Special guests will include six-time Grammy nominee and American Music Award winner Yola and Soul/R&B/Funk band TMF, formerly known as Maze Featuring Frankie Beverly, who recently announced their new lead singer, the Houston native Chris Walker. Following the live performances, the celebration will conclude with a dazzling fireworks display.

“The Shell Freedom Over Texas is Houston’s most prominent civic event. It is a real pleasure to welcome our sponsors and celebrate the birth of our nation. We will honor the men and women who have made great sacrifices to secure our freedoms” said Mayor Sylvester Turner. “I invite Houstonians and my fellow Texans to join us for this annual celebration to demonstrate the importance of honoring our country, upholding the values ​​of our founding fathers and instilling pride in our community.”

This year’s festivities at Eleanor Tinsley and Sam Houston Parks in Buffalo Bayou (along Allen Parkway) include: Bud Light Bayou Bash, a fun outdoor activity with games on the lawn for everyone to enjoy a perfect view of the main stage and the spectacular fireworks finale, alike; he Dr Pepper Flavor Zone, features all of Houston’s professional sports teams, a stage with live music, dancing and Dr Pepper floats; DICK’s Sporting Goods All-American Kids Zonewith entertainment for children with activities and for families, including games, rides and much more. Liberty Parkincludes a tribute to the five branches of the Armed Forces, “Symbols of Freedom”, a large number of military vehicles such as tanks and other assets from past military conflicts, first aid kits and an exclusive presentation of Space City provided by NASA .
