In 2023 there are even more restrictions on what colors you can use for a tattoo. Because two other color pigments are banned from January 4th.
Berlin – Anyone who wants to get a tattoo will have to do without two popular color pigments from January 4, 2023. Because then comes the end for the dyes “Pigment Blue 15:3”, a bright blue, and “Pigment Green 7”, a dark green. The consumer advice centers point this out.
As early as January 2022, the use of more than 4000 chemicals in tattoo inks and permanent make-up was banned in the EU or their concentration was restricted to the point that they were effectively banned. According to EU regulation 2020/2081, for example, the colors may no longer contain any substances that are classified as carcinogenic, mutagenic or skin allergens.
For the dyes “Pigment Blue 15:3” and “Pigment Green 7”, however, there was a longer transitional period due to the lack of better alternatives.
Label lists ingredients
If you want to be sure that alternatives are used, you should have the tattoo artist or their studio confirm that the tattoo color complies with EU Regulation 2020/2081. Or take a look at the tattoo ink label. Because since 2022 it must be marked for the intended use.
If allergic reactions occur after being stung, it can help the doctor to make the diagnosis if he knows the ingredients. Therefore, consumer advocates advise photographing the labels of the tattoo inks used and keeping the photos with the list of ingredients. Alternatively, you can also ask for a list of the ingredients. dpa
