Enjoying a Christmas dinner with the family, going on vacation or visiting family, are just some issues that not all Mexicans can experience in December, especially people who live in orphanages or shelters.

The organization Aldeas Infantiles SOS, has among its data that approximately more than 29 thousand children and adolescents live in orphanages either hostels and close to 5 million Mexican children are at risk of losing the care of their families due to causes such as poverty, addictions, intrafamily violence and legal processes.

This same organization informs that according to Article 25 of the Law for the Protection of the Rights of Girls, Boys and Adolescents in Mexicowhen a girl, a boy or an adolescent is deprived of their family, they will have the right to receive the protection of the State, who will be in charge of procuring a substitute family for them and while they are under its guardianship, they will be given the special care that required by their situation of family helplessness.

According to data from the UNICEF Mexico, of the almost 40 million children and adolescents living in Mexico, more than half are in a situation of poverty and 4 million live in extreme poverty.

The Census of Social Assistance Accommodations (CAAS) announced that in addition to minors, among the most vulnerable population that occupies the hostels and orphanages are also the elderly, women, indigenous people, migrants, people with addictions, in street situations, with mental disorders or mental disabilities, with incurable or terminal illnesses, among others.
