Away from the pitch, Jeremie Frimpong’s future is currently one of the dominant issues at Bayer Leverkusen. No wonder, after all, the 22-year-old right-back has attracted the interest of big clubs with top performances. The Dutchman has already recorded eight goals and nine assists in all competitions this season.
Bayer coach Xabi Alonso is not concerned that the ongoing rumors will upset Frimpong. “Rumors are normal with a special player like Jerry. I talk to him a lot. He is 100 percent focused on our team.”said the 41-year-old at today’s matchday press conference before the Bundesliga duel against Eintracht Frankfurt (Saturday, 3:30 p.m.).
Manchester United in particular has recently been associated with Frimpong. According to ‘Sky’, positive talks have already taken place between the Red Devils and the right-back’s agent. According to Transfermarkt insider Fabrizio Romano, FC Bayern is also in the running for the speed dribbler.
Bayern interest unspecific?
But Munich’s interest is currently apparently much colder than that of Manchester. According to the ‘Bild’ there have not yet been any talks between Bayern and the Frimpong camp. The Dutchman is not on the list because with four right-backs in the squad, they already see themselves sufficiently armed.
Of course, that could change in the coming transfer summer. Finally, it is unclear whether the German record champions will sign ManCity on loan João Cancelo (28). In addition, Benjamin Pavard’s (27) contract expires in 2024. A post-season split is one possible scenario. If both go, Munich would suddenly have a need for the right-back position again.
Frimpong’s tendency
According to ‘Bild’, Frimpong himself is also tending towards a transfer to ManUnited. The 22-year-old is very interested in returning to Manchester. At the age of seven he moved from Amsterdam with his parents to the English city. Between 2010 and 2019 he was active in the Man City youth team.
