Good news for fans of Hape Kerkeling: The mini-series “Club Las Piranjas” finally starts on October 19th.

Fans of Hape Kerkeling, 58, had to wait a long time for this news: The new mini-series “Club Las Piranjas” will finally start on RTL+ on October 19th. The broadcaster has now announced this.

The four episodes are a continuation of the comedy of the same name, which became a cult film in the 90s. Hape Kerkeling once again takes on the role of the animator Edwin Ttel. Angelika Milster, 71, is back as his colleague Biggi Jakobs, Judy Winter, 79, as club director Dr. Renate Wenger. New additions include Ben Mnchow, 32, as Edwin’s son Bjrn and Trang Le Hong, 36, as Bjrn’s fiancée Lani. Cordula Stratmann, 59, Benno Frmann, 51, and Andrea Sawatzki, 60, also play roles.

The plot: Ex-animator Edwin ttel flies incognito to the holiday island of Mauritius. He wants to prevent the wedding of his son Bjrn and his fiancé Lani. Because then he should inherit half of the club resort “Las Piranjas” that Bjrn manages – that’s what Bjrn’s mother promised him on her deathbed. As soon as he arrives in the holiday paradise, he slides into chaos and experiences all sorts of bizarre adventures while trying to sabotage the wedding.

Filming in a honeymoon hotel

According to Hape Kerkeling, the idea for the mini-series had to do with a “stubborn fan base”: “There were always people who asked me why ‘Club Las Piranjas’ didn’t continue. After seeing these fans for 28 years now “Having left it hanging for years, the time had finally come, now or never, to bring ‘Club Las Piranjas’ back to the screens – in all its spookiness and with all its charm.”

Filming took place in spring/summer 2022. Kerkeling: “In total, filming in Mauritius lasted three months. We did not have the hotel exclusively for ourselves during the filming phase, which meant that normal tourist activity continued and so there were one or two collisions Since we worked in a honeymoon hotel where a wedding ceremony took place every 40 minutes, filming was interrupted every 40 minutes – sounds funny, but it wasn’t, it was quite challenging for our team.”

After RTL+, “Club Las Piranjas” will also be shown on RTL later in the year.
