An American woman known from the Netflix documentary series The Crimes of Our Mother has been found guilty of murdering her two youngest children. A court also saw evidence that the 49-year-old was involved in plotting to kill her husband’s ex-wife. The US media reported yesterday unanimously from the courtroom in the city of Boise, Idaho.
According to prosecutors, at the time of the crime in 2019, the couple believed themselves to be godlike figures tasked with ridding the world of “zombie” spirits that, among other things, inhabited their children.
Life imprisonment threatened
The woman now faces a life sentence. As is usual in the USA, the penalty will only be determined at a later point in time. She had pleaded not guilty in the trial. Her husband also has to answer in court – and also pleaded not guilty.
According to the reporters present, the woman showed no emotions when the verdict was announced. Significant parts of the trial revolved around the couple’s extreme religious beliefs.
The verdict marks the end of three years of investigations. In autumn 2019, there was a large-scale search for the two children after the grandparents informed the authorities that they had not heard from them for more than a month.
When the police visited the couple at their home, they were away – to Hawaii to get married there. The children’s bodies were later found on the couple’s property and a pet cemetery.
