An applicant for the normal school of Ayotzinapa, in Mexico, is found dead

MADRID, 30 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –

An applicant to enter the Normal Rural School of Ayotzinapa, Marco Antonio Benegas Cortés, 33, has been found dead with a head injury in a steep area near the highway that connects Chilpancingo and Tixtla.

Benegas appeared on the first day of the “induction week” organized by the school’s student society, but was later reported missing on July 22, reports the Mexican newspaper ‘Milenio’.

On Thursday the 27th, relatives of Marco Antonio, accompanied by personnel from the Human Rights Commission of the State of Guerrero (CDHEG), as well as from the State Commission for the Search for Persons (CEBP), members of the Center for the Rights of Victims of the Violence, Minerva Bello, as well as students from the institution, conducted a search within the facilities. At the school, only Benegas’s backpack was found with various belongings, including his mobile phone.

On Saturday, July 29, the authorities learned of the discovery of a body matching the description of Benegas some 4 kilometers from the Chilpancingo-Tixtla federal highway, a short distance from the main entrance to the Normal Rural facilities.

The Ayotzinapa Normal School is known for the disappearance in 2014 of 43 normal students who were arrested by members of the security forces, who handed them over to a criminal group. The case is a milestone for the fight against disappearances and the collaboration between security forces and criminal organizations.
