an art with stories, sound and entertainment

MIAMI. – World Cinema Day is this second Saturday in February. One of the objectives of this event is to celebrate the influence of the movies to inspire and connect people around the world.

The word cinema is the abbreviation of cinematography: it is a word composed of the Greek voices kin (movement) and graphos (writing or inscription).

The first celebration of this day took place in 2020, before the 92nd Oscars. At first, cinema meant a step forward for photographer. George Eastman invented the 35mm Kodak film roll in 1888, which meant a revolution for the beginnings of cinema.

This scroll was used in the United States by Thomas Alva Edison and the Lumire brothers in Europe. The latter added perforations to the photographic film using a drag system linked to a projection system.

In 1895, the first public film screening was held in Paris, France: a series of shots of workers at work or of a train approaching the La Ciotat station. In that year, the brothers Auguste Marie and Louis Jean Lumire patented cinematography.
