a fan of Elden Ring has reimagined rykardLord of Blasphemy, in a style NES of 8 bit. Rykard, an optional boss of the Elden Ring, who first appeared as the God-Devouring Serpent, was the brother of Ranni and Radahn.

Fans will easily remember Rykard as the hideous, gigantic human-faced serpent beast who is obsessed with eating things to gain his power. Although Elden Ring has many uncomfortable or disturbing boss designs, Rykard offers a grotesque and visceral experience to the player, even after his defeat.

Unlike most enemies defeated in the Elden Ring, Rykard’s body will partially remain after his defeat, and the player may find his devotee, Tanith, attempting to gain his power by eating him. Although the game encompasses many themes and tones, the setting is more akin to a horror-themed experience than a broader epic fantasy.

It’s no surprise, then, that in reddit user Praetor64’s rendering of the Lord of Blasphemy in the style of the NES, Rykard looks like he would fit perfectly in a Castlevania or Metroid title.

Considering that Rykard’s goal was to become strong enough to “devour the gods themselves,” it’s understandable that he needed to become a fearsome creature. Despite his monstrous nature, it’s important to remember that Rykard was once human, and even had a daughter.

Fortunately, Rykard’s daughter may have a happy ending, something rare in Elden Ring. Rendered in pixel-art, Rykard conveys a strong sense of horror with a skin-raising color palette in Praetor64’s art.
