Like every Sunday, it’s time again: In cooperation with our guest author Stefan, we offer you a review of the cloud gaming news of the last few days in the sixth calendar week of the still young year. Stefan is our resident cloud gaming expert and regularly shares his enthusiasm and knowledge on the Cloudplay YouTube channel.

A correction to our tip on how to display the statistics in GeForce Now on mobile:

Before you show them with LB+LT+B, you must first either show the GeForce Now bar (overlay) by touch or hold down the “Pause” button.

Also, the Shadow PC discount code is still valid for a few days! For the first 3 months there is a 15% discount on the standard and power upgrade with the code: CLOUDPLAY15PERCENT. The memory expansion is excluded, code is valid in Germany and Austria and until 02/15/2023.

We have tested the cloud gaming service “airgpu” for you and are looking forward to your opinion. Our detailed video is available here:

We also have a small discount code for you. Get 10% discount when buying airgpu credits with the code: CLOUDPLAY

GeForce Now

Let’s keep it short and sweet – the current update with three games:

  • Recipe for Disaster (Back up for free at EpicGames, 9th-16th February)
  • Baldur’s Gate 3 (Steam)
  • Inside the Backrooms (Steam)

Unfortunately, with the release of Baldur’s Gate 3, official controller support doesn’t seem to be coming back for the time being. The game is only playable with keyboard and mouse. But I’m very happy that it’s available again via cloud gaming.

The game “Perish” is currently removed from the GeForce Now library. Further information is not yet known. We will keep you up to date.

Amazon Luna

The Luna service, which is still only available in the USA, loses another 55 titles! This brings the number of games to under 200. It is interesting that further titles have been announced for the service, but it remains to be seen whether this will continue to be supported. What is clear is that Luna is rapidly losing content and little or nothing is coming up with new games. Especially when you think of the history and end of Magenta Gaming or Google Stadia, there are already parallels here. Amazon Luna has also been known for being very active in communicating with the community, which has also almost completely ground to a halt.

I hope that Luna will continue to grow in 2023 and finally come to Germany. I’d love to try it and I’m sure it would be an alternative to Stadia for many.

utomy

Utomik actually has a big announcement for us today.

Starting February 24th, the service will release some Atari games! We are very excited about this new partnership.

The first titles sound more than good:

  • Roller Coaster Tycoon
  • PONG quest
  • Asteroids: Recharged

The announcement was:

As gamers, we all have our nostalgic, emotional ties to certain parts of the gaming industry, and for many of us, Atari is just that: a connection to the past, to our childhood. With this partnership, we want to share this passion for games with as many people as possible, regardless of hardware and the like, and give them a chance to experience the awesomeness of these games too. Atari can even reach users of Android devices and smart TVs from Samsung or LG via Utomik.

antistream

New to Antstream this week:

  • Tuff E Nuff (’93 SNES)
  • Runn ‘n’ Gunn (’21 C64)

General

Kind of doesn’t fit into any category – grab a bag of popcorn – are the latest releases from the UK regulator, the CMA. 9to5Google and Daniel Ziegener have published a good preparation here.

Google Stadia appears to have gained less than 10% market share (2021), only to fall further to below 5% (2022). The market leaders here are the two top dogs Microsoft and Sony, and GeForce Now is also very solid.

Source here are CMA’s own calculations.

It should be noted that we always had a pretty good idea of the number of users of Stadia and Co. Especially with the share of the overall market. Without wanting to evaluate it now: it is a very difficult environment to generate such small market shares in a niche. Since the top 3 actually have a better hand. At the same time, it fits perfectly into our new podcast series

“The Rise and Fall of Google Stadia – Personal Stories.”

I described it all like this:

The Rise and Fall of Google Stadia is a new podcast series dedicated to the rise and fall of Google’s cloud gaming platform. Each part is about personal stories from users and professionals who have experienced the platform. Listeners can expect an exciting journey through the highs and lows of Google Stadia, including insights into the technology, the community and the future of gaming.

Episode 1 is a bit of an introduction to the little mini-series.
