An elderly man suspected of a murder in Miami-Dade is arrested in the Dominican

The authorities of the Dominican Republic confirmed the arrest of an 81-year-old man, of Cuban origin, who was a fugitive and who was wanted by the United States justice for a case of murder and other crimes allegedly committed in South Florida.

The Specialized Anti-Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing Prosecutor’s Office and the Special Division for International Organized Crime Investigation (DEICROI) of the National Police of the Dominican Republic arrested Leomar Valdes Martínez, an 81-year-old Cuban national, “who was persecuted by the United States, for an underlying murder and which is being investigated for money laundering, crimes committed in Miami, Florida,” said a statement from the attorney general’s office.

According to information released by the island’s authorities, Valdes Martínez remained illegally in the Dominican Republic and the subject will be deported in the next few hours.

The execution of the deportation is carried out after a raid on the home of Valdes Martínez, located in the Los Filiú sector, of San Pedro de Macorís, due to a request for international cooperation from the US authorities, reported the attorney general’s office.

“In the aforementioned search, documents related to his process in the United States were seized, despite the fact that he categorically denies his criminal participation,” the statement said.

Valdes Martínez, as indicated in the FBI’s cooperation request to the Dominican authorities, “is a highly dangerous and armed fugitive and who provided false information to avoid his capture, after the commission of the events in Miami County (Miami-Dade ) and create a fortune in the Dominican Republic”. The crime with which he is accused would have been committed in 2005.

In the next few hours, the FBI authorities will transfer Leomar Valdes Martínez as a deportee.
