Google plans to deploy the stable and final version of Android 14 in August, even September. We don’t have a more specific release date at this time, but Google has scheduled one beta per month until July. The first Developer Preview is already available for the Pixel 7 we tested, Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 6/6 Pro, Pixel 5/5a and Pixel 4a (5G). Moreover, do not hesitate to find our list of smartphones that will be compatible with Android 14.

Android 14 introduces new features for inclusivity and accessibility to ensure a better experience for all users

Here are the novelties of Android 14 Developer Preview which will also prevent you from installing outdated applications:

  • Better battery management so that it discharges less quickly. Battery consumption will be more efficient;
  • Improved accessibility with larger fonts (up to 200%) for easier reading. Visually impaired users will also benefit from improved readability with automatic non-linear font scaling;
  • Further customization options for a better user experience;
  • Improved API (application programmed interface) behavior to reduce system resource usage;
  • Better support for tablets and foldable screens with more options available to developers. Android 14 applications will thus be better optimized on large screens and foldable screens;
  • Apps outside of clocks and calendars will need to request permission to set exact alarms. These alarms affect battery life and device resources, so they may not be automatically set by all applications;
  • Greater inclusiveness with terms that adapt to all genres. In French for example, instead of displaying “you are subscribed to” or “you are subscribed to”, Android 14 will display “subscription to … activated”.

These are only some new features brought by the first Developer Preview of Android 14. The next version of the operating system will gradually bring new features as it is released, such as the next Developer Preview scheduled for March.
