An American climber died this Sunday in the Aconcagua Park. It is the second death reported in the last few hours.

According to information provided by the Ministry of Security, the man, identified as John Michael Magness, 58, collapsed around 2 in the morning when he was 6,380 meters above sea level, in the Independencia camp. They began to lower him while assisting him with oxygen, but nothing could prevent his death.

His body was taken by the Rescue Patrol to Nido de Cóndores and this morning it was scheduled to be transferred by helicopter to Horcones.

Magness’s death joins that of another climber, in this Norwegian case, which occurred in the last few hours.

Moi Oystein, 62, died on Saturday after suffering a decompensation at 6,500 meters above sea level, in the La Cueva sector.

According to the first data, Oystein was making his way to the summit together with the group that he was part of when, for reasons that are still being determined, he broke down. They tried to revive him with CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation), but he died on the spot.

The Aconcagua is the highest hill in the western hemisphere with 6,962 meters and this season is the one enabled for promotions.
