A large contingent of 250 helpers finds boys in the Lahn after hours. He was out in a boat at high tide. This is known so far.

With a large contingent of up to 250 rescue workers and a police helicopter, it was possible to save an eleven-year-old boy from the Lahn near Dautphetal. The Hessian media and the German press agency reported on Saturday evening.

The boy is said to have been in a boat on the Lahn with two other people. The boat is said to have capsized near Friedensdorf and the boy fell into the water. According to unconfirmed reports, it should have been a rubber dinghy and not a canoe. The other two occupants had been able to save themselves on land.

Because the Lahn is flooded, the situation was dramatic. Between the districts of Friedensdorf and Buchenau, helpers had searched for the boy for almost twelve hours.

As reported by mittelhessen.de, rescuers had taken a boat up the Lahn from Cölbe. A police helicopter supported from the air and other emergency services are said to have stretched several ropes across the Lahn to Cölbe in order to be able to save the boy.

Police comment on the condition of the boy

The rescue workers then found what they were looking for between Friedensdorf and Carlshütte. A police spokesman is quoted as saying that the boy was rescued from the river Lahn unconscious but alive in the late afternoon. The boy was then taken to a hospital. A police spokesman described his condition on Sunday as “very, very critical”.

It is not known why the boy and his two companions went on a “boat trip” on the Lahn. Initially, the reports said that the eleven-year-old was said to have been in the boat with two teenagers. It was later said that the companions should have been adults.

Hessischer Rundfunk supplements the reporting by pointing out that the “Katwarn” emergency service also issued a warning at 2:29 p.m. on Saturday afternoon: Witnesses in the Marburg-Biedenkopf district are asked to carefully monitor the area on the Lahn without themselves putting yourself in danger. After a few rainy days, the Lahn floods.
