A ski tourer who was swept away by an avalanche was able to free himself on Sunday morning.

On Sunday at around 10:30 a.m., two ski tourers released an avalanche 200 meters wide and 300 meters long on the descent in the open ski area in Mittelberg, about 100 meters below the Höferspitze. One person was swept away several hundred meters and buried up to his chest in the masses of snow. Luckily she was unharmed and was able to free herself. The companion was not caught by the avalanche. Both were able to ski down into the valley themselves. For safety reasons, the Mittelberg/Hirschegg and Riezlern mountain rescue service carried out an avalanche transceiver search with around 100 helpers. No other persons were identified. The Kleinwalsertal fire brigade and the Libelle and C8 helicopters were also involved in the operation.
