Actor Laurence Fishburneknown from TheMatrix and also Marvel’s Ant-Man and the Waspapparently has his most recent role in Marvel Cinematic Universe forget. The incident happened as Fishburne was expressing his love for the franchise. Fishburne is a Hollywood veteran with a career spanning more than five decades in the industry. His best-known role was as the iconic character Morpheus in the original Matrix trilogy alongside lead actor Keanu Reeves, with whom he also starred in the action franchise John Wick when the Bowery King collaborated. In addition, Fishburne starred in the MCU film Ant-Man and the Wasp the role of Bill Fosterwhich he seems to have forgotten.
Dropouts in the interview
In a new interview on the Phase Zero Podcast Fishburne was asked what he was hoping for or excited about as a fan. The Ant Man 2 star replied: “I’m an MCU guy. I love the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And as much as I’d love to be in it, I’m happy to be a fan and see what’s to come. I just heard they were in Atlanta, prepare another Captain America. I think yes! Bring it!”
While the response was charming, people quickly noticed that Fishburne had previously appeared in the MCU, playing the role of Bill Foster, Ava Starr’s protector. The actress behind this role, Hannah John-Kamen, also serves as the lead actress for the film Red Sonya was chosen.
However, Fishburne recalled his role in the MCU in a December 2021 interview with ComicBook.com when asked if fans can expect him to reprise his role in future Marvel projects. “What if I tell you I don’t know?” he replied in reference to his reappearance in the MCU. “I don’t know it.”
It’s possible that Fishburne said this more to manage fan expectations than to admit he’s not up to speed. He may have learned a lesson from this after failing to play despite obvious fan interest in The Matrix Resurrections was invited.
Not only Fishburne has forgotten his role
Fishburne’s case is similar to that of Gwyneth Paltrow, another Marvel star who’s forgotten which MCU films she’s been in, despite having a more prominent role there than Fishburne and admitting she’d like to return in the future, subject to certain conditions would occur in the MCU. With such a wide range of films and other projects that both actors have been a part of in their long and successful careers, it is to be expected that one or two roles will be forgotten.
But while Fishburne says he’s content just being a fan, there’s still a chance his fans will see him again. Featuring Ava Starr, his character’s adopted protégé, who in Marvel’s Thunderbolts with Ghost showing up, there’s more than a slim chance that Bill Foster will show up again in the MCU anytime soon.
