In addition to Joaquín Guzmán, three other members of the Sinaloa Cartel and two entities based in Mexico were sanctioned by the US Treasury Department, as they are part of a network supervised by Los Chapitos to traffic fentanyl and synthetic drugs.

These people were identified as Mario Esteban Ogazon Sedano (in charge of the acquisition of chemical precursors and the supervision of clandestine laboratories), Raymundo Perez Uribe (who ran a network of suppliers for the manufacture of the synthetic opioid) and Saul Paez Lopez (member who participated in the shipment of drugs).

As regards the sanctioned companies, they are Sumilab SA de CV., whose headquarters are located in Culiacán, Sinaloa, where it is dedicated to the distribution of chemical products. Also included was Urbanización, Inmobiliaria y Construcción de Obras SA de CV, owned by Ogazón Sedana and located in the same entity.

“Joaquín Guzmán López is involved in the management of the super labs -which have often been supplied by a network led by the Sinaloan brothers Ludim and Luis Alfonso Zamudio Lerma- and in illicit drug trafficking to the United States,” OFAC detailed on Tuesday.
