According to officials, it all began with an investigation carried out by the Miami-Dade police anti-narcotics division, but when trying to capture the suspect, he escaped in a car and triggered a chase that culminated in a shocking crash on 132nd street in the southwest with US-1 just after 7 p.m.
The man’s car on the run was completely destroyed. Preliminary information indicates that a driver who was traveling in the area at that time and who was hit by the suspect was transported to a nearby hospital in stable condition.
For his part, the subject they were chasing and who was driving a black truck was also transferred to a medical center in stable condition.
Detectives were on the scene for hours and recovered a firearm from the vehicle in question.
The emergency teams also provided medical assistance to a pregnant woman and a 2-year-old baby who were coming in a Tesla and who crashed as a result of the police pursuit. However, paramedics determined that they could go home without health damage.
The suspect also collided with a Miami-Dade County police car but the officer was uninjured.
Detective Angel Rodriguez, spokesman for the Miami-Dade police, said that “the subject attempted to run over several officers and fled the scene … collided with a citizen’s vehicle and simultaneously collided with a Miami police department vehicle. Miami-Dade”.
Viviana Tinoco, a witness to the events, states that the man “hit everyone, like 4 or 3 cars. And I have it all on video. We weren’t scared but almost like ‘omg what happened’. We saw that he was running and then we saw policemen, a lot of smoke on the ground and all that. And then we saw the first car, the white one that was badly wrecked and then another that had a baby, a car here crashed and I think the police hit them and then that was the last car that was there.”
This is an investigation that is still active and the police say that formal charges will be filed soon with the person responsible, for the moment they do not reveal their identity.
