According to a new media report, Apple is relying on the help of users to create attractive content for its planned mixed reality headset. Voice assistant Siri will play a crucial role in this. With it, it should be possible to design augmented reality apps without programming knowledge. Apple’s headset, which has been the subject of speculation for some time, is said to be presented in the spring and released later this year.

Like the online magazine The Information citing several anonymous sources at Apple, users should even be able to place their AR apps in the App Store. In practice, creating your own AR worlds should look like Siri can be asked to use objects from the real world in your own app. With the Object Capture APIwhich Apple introduced in 2021 with macOS Monterey, Apple already has corresponding programming interfaces that make it possible to photometrically measure objects from a series of photos and convert them into 3D objects for AR applications.

In the case of the headset, however, adding it to a separate app would be far more complex. According to the report, the objects should not only be accurately reproduced in 3D, but also fit into the virtual world as if they were real. As an example, virtual animals are mentioned, which can then be animated without programming knowledge as if they were walking through the room.

Apple’s competitor Meta has already created something similar for its own headsets with the Horizon Worlds app. In addition, Apple is also planning its own AR content for its own Reality Pro headset. Health and fitness should play a role in this. Only a few days ago, the first possible details about the operating system became known.
