Surely you have already seen it in different stores, but globally the iPhone 14 Pro Max has a value of around $1,099, a figure that changes depending on the country you are in. However, although it seems logical that Manzana make a profit from the sale of the device, it costs you much less than that to manufacture it.

According to Counterpoint’s latest Bill of Materials (BoM) analysis, cited in a report published on the Counterpoint website tech spot, the 128 GB iPhone 14 Pro Max costs the Cupertino company about $474 to produce.

The report adds that, assuming a 44 percent mmWave mix, the combined BOM ends up being around $464which represents an increase of approximately 3.7 percent compared to the iPhone 13 Pro Max.

Notably, Apple didn’t increase the suggested retail price of its biggest phone year-over-year. In addition, Counterpoint said that the phone’s display, processor, and camera system have a higher share in the BoM list than the previous year.

What does Counterpoint assess?

For example, the current generation Pro Max’s display features a higher maximum brightness in HDR and outdoor modes. The latest models also feature an always-on display that shows the time, lock screen widgets, wallpaper, and more, all of which add to the overall cost of the display.

Meanwhile, the A16 Bionic uses a more advanced 4nm manufacturing process than Counterpoint estimates that contributes to a cost increase of $11 per unit compared to the A15 Bionic.

Similarly, Sony’s new 48-megapixel camera system has a sensor area that is 65 percent larger than its predecessor, as well as an improved sensor-shift stabilization system. Total, new camera components add an estimated $6.30 to the total cost of the iPhone 14 Pro Max.

Roughly speaking, the estimate puts the BOM at around 42 percent of the full retail price of the 128GB iPhone 14 Pro Max, which seems like a consistent margin.
