Une of those responsible (and also protagonist) of ‘Ted Lasso’ from Apple TV+, Jason Sudeikis, explained in an interview with The Guardian that the character was inspired by Donald Trump on the day the former US president announced his candidacy.

Sudeikis explained that, at an early stage, the personality created for coach Ted Lasso was very different, being more “belligerent”. However, with Donald Trump announcing his candidacy for US president, he felt the need to make the character more affable and not contribute to greater aggression.

“Things have become very binary and I don’t think that’s how the world works”noted Sudeikis, explaining that he hated “the way people didn’t listen to each other”.

It is worth remembering that ‘Ted Lasso’ has become one of the great hits of Apple TV+ since it debuted in April 2020, with several viewers becoming fans of the cheerful and pleasant personality of the character played by Sudeikis.
