With its first virtual or augmented reality headset, Apple apparently wants to explore which usage scenarios appeal to customers with the widest possible selection of software. Meanwhile, the power supply is reminiscent of the MagSafe concept.

Like the US Economic Service Bloomberg reported, Apple initially wants to launch an extremely wide range of products on the market in order to encourage potential customers to try out the expensive headset. Apple is said to have not yet found a “killer app” for the first VR headset from its development, which costs around 3,000 US dollars, which is why it simply wants to try to offer everything possible for the time being, and then keep an eye on user behavior.

At the start, Apple tries to offer everything possible, later it is thinned out

The Apple Watch took a similar approach, and after initially offering all sorts of features, Apple is now focusing on health tracking, notifications, and lavish watch faces. The reason for this is simply that the interest of the users is concentrated on these features.

With its new VR headset, Apple therefore wants to make it possible to use all known iPad apps in mixed reality. There is also a wellness app with a focus on meditation, a portal for accessing various sports content in VR and a large number of games developed by well-known Apple partners. You should also be able to use the headset as an external monitor for a Mac. Apple also plans to enable use for virtual meetings and introduce new features for collaborative whiteboarding via the Freeform app. On top of that, a kind of extended fitness offer is planned, but its introduction will probably only take place later. Various third-party software products and a Mac-based developer kit to be used for their development are also to be presented at the WWDC.

Over time, it should then become apparent which functions and applications are particularly valued by buyers of the Apple Reality One or Reality Pro headset. The range of available software will then probably decrease somewhat, because investments in new developments by Apple and its external partners will gradually be reduced.

As Bloomberg also reports, Apple wants to use a power connector for the new headset that is attached to the device with the help of magnets. All in all, the whole thing should be reminiscent of the MagSafe magnet attachments, which are also common on the iPhone and other Apple products. In addition to a power supply unit, replaceable battery packs can also be attached in this way, the dimensions of which are reminiscent of very thick iPhones.
