The apprentice swapped the bustling streets of London for the white sandy beaches of Antigua tonight as the BBC show returned.

While everyone watching at home agreed the Caribbean scenery was breathtaking, they questioned the need to put the 18 contestants on a long-haul flight during a cost-of-living crisis.

The boys loved the island life[/caption]

One wrote on Twitter: “Was it really necessary to fly all applicants to Antigua?”

Another posted: “Antigua on Task 1!!! Cost of living what?!!!”

A third said: “Starts the program mentioning the cost of living crisis and then sends applicants to Antigua.”

Others were left baffled that contestants were still in suits and office attire on the beach in the scorching sun

Girls and boys competed on the island, whipping up very different cultural tours.

It wasn’t long before the girls found themselves in deep trouble as they tried to sell expensive catamaran trips to deserted beaches.

Cue a lot of bickering and blaming each other over the wrong choice of location.

Meanwhile, the boys’ project manager, Joe Phillips, who compared himself to James Bond at the start of the show, has come unstuck while leading a tour of Fort Berkeley.

When a tourist asked him to explain what they were all looking at, he became speechless and could only come up with a half-hearted “Atlantic Ocean.”

While teammate Gregory Ebbs memorized all the local facts and delivered them expertly.

The girls had better luck during their fun pottery lesson, their guests singing along and genuinely enjoying the craftsmanship in stark contrast to the sour expressions during the boys’ rum tasting session.
