When Aquaman was released in cinemas around the world in 2018, those responsible at Warner should have felt a sense of relief. The hopes with the DC Extended Universe to establish an equal competitor to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the highly competitive cinema market had received a severe setback.
But then Aquaman, starring Jason Momoa (Game of Thrones), Amber Heard (Magic Mike) and Dolph Lundgren (Rocky IV), hit theaters and wowed audiences. proud $1.148 billion was able to import the first solo adventure of the underwater hero worldwide. A result that many a film from the MCU would be happy about.
