Teams from the Ministry of Agriculture, the National Agrifood Health and Quality Service (Senasa) and the National Seed Institute (INASE) participated in the first experimental harvests of hemp cultivation on Argentine soil.

These harvests were carried out by the national company Industrial Hemp Solutions (IHS), after more than 50 years, within the framework of the possibilities offered by the new regulatory framework regarding medicinal Cannabis and Industrial Hemp.

IHS is an Argentine company dedicated to locally developing high value-added industrial solutions based on hemp.

It is a pioneer in bringing the most innovative hemp genetics in the world into the country to accelerate the development of this industry in Argentina.

With the authorization of Senasa and INASE, the firm was able to bring cutting-edge hemp genetics from different regions of the world into the country. In Argentina, the cultivation of this species was prohibited since the 80s, when it stopped producing.

“The purpose is to “chain” the industries and facilitate the transition towards the new economies in pursuit of the creation of integral value. In this way the company promotes the development of regional economies, promotes carbon sequestration and contributes to the regeneration of the land, in addition to generating foreign currency for the country, both through exports and through import substitution”, explained Maximiliano Baranoff, director of Innovation at IHS.
