It is a highly anticipated visit that Charles III is preparing to make to France. Last March, his first official trip to the country had to be postponed because of demonstrations against pension reform. In August, the new dates for this visit were confirmed and it will take place from this Wednesday, September 20 to Friday. During their stay, Charles and Camilla will notably visit the Arc de Triomphe, the Champs-Élysées, Versailles and the construction site of Notre-Dame de Paris Cathedral. They should also travel to Bordeaux.
Why did Emmanuel Macron choose these gifts?
Charles III informed the Elysée of one of his requirements for his stay in France. “Sensitive to the idea of following in his mother’s footsteps”, the king expressed the desire to dine in the Hall of Mirrors at Versailles, as his mother Elizabeth II did in 1957 after her coronation. “This is the pinnacle in terms of official reception offered by the Republic. A work which deals in particular with the protection of nature. “This gift echoes the long-standing cooperation of the President of the Republic and King Charles in favor of biodiversity“, explains the Elysée Palace, recalling that Charles III participated in COP21 in Paris in 2015 and that he was present alongside Emmanuel Macron at COP26 in Glasgow. The king has been very engaged on environmental issues for years.
