Tons of plastic

“The scientific data is clear: plastic pollution is everywhere and causes damage to wildlife and the environment,” Canadian Environment Minister Steven Guilbeault recalled in November.

According to Ottawa, three million tons of plastic waste are dumped in Canada every year. Only 9% of this waste is recycled.

In 2019, 353 million tons of plastic waste was produced worldwide, 22% of which ended up in landfills, burned or discarded in nature.
