A new trend appears in the market gaming pc, with the release of commemorative plaques to video game characters. We saw it first with Sonic and now apparently the ASUS ROG Mario Bros760.

A plate that, in theory, would be launched in honor of Nintendo and its legendary Super Mario Bros. franchise, part of an apparent fight between competitors for that market segment. But the story would have some details that are worth unraveling.

Many of us could locate the beginning of this trend in the sector with the presentation of the ASRock Z790 PG SONIC. A board that actually exists and that has become an object of desire for devotees of SEGA and the Blue Hedgehog franchise.

On the other hand, in recent days the images of a new motherboard supposedly developed by ASUS through Republic of Gaming with what would be a tribute to Nintendo.

The news spread and he replied almost immediately, but there were some details that didn’t add up. Here we try to unravel the mystery.

Where did the ASUS ROG Mario Bros760 come from?

A simple Google search is enough to locate the origin of the news of the ASUS ROG Mario Bros760 on the Spanish site of GENETIC.ESa web portal that already has more than two decades of existence and irrefutable popularity in that territory.

There, the antecedent with the Sonic board is realized and marks the continuation of this branch of diversification with the presentation of the ASUS board, where the image of this powerful piece of hardware is shown. It is here where the most observant will begin to notice some striking elements:

The ASUS plate, according to the site, would have some similar details to Sonic’s, but here focused on the plumber. Everything looks normal at first with the description of the obligatory PCI and USB ports, but then comes a disconcerting paragraph that we quote here verbatim:

“With this ASUS ROG Mario Bros760 model, motifs of the famous plumber Mario are included all over the plate. A 2280 form factor sized Princess Peach sticker has also been added for your M.2 SSD to keep things going.

A BIOS startup sound has been added with the classic 8-bit melody from the famous video game that will play when you turn on your PC. Includes red and blue RGB lighting like Mario’s suit that will later be updated to include white and green in Luigi’s oven.”

It is at this point where we see that the image does not match what has been described and, on top of that, it can already be seen clearly that it is a not very detailed photomontage, particularly in the sticker on the coins.

Just one visit to ASUS newsroom to corroborate that there is no presentation note on this plate. But the final detail comes with the date of publication of the note on the Spanish site: December 28, 2022.

In conclusion, according to the comment section of that note, it would be an April Fool’s Day joke.
