In this year 2022, Persona 5 Royal has certainly been one of the greatest successes of the year, scoring scores ranging between 91 and 95 out of 100 on Metacritic in particular. Atlus’ JRPG has made a resounding comeback and it’s a safe bet that one of their next projects will be a sequel to Persona 5 Royal.

So what is this unrevealed follow-up project to Shin Megami Tensei V, Souls Hackers 2

If we come back today on this saga, it is following the remarks made by the director and producer of Atlus, Mitsuru Hirata. It is on the occasion of a unpublished interview granted to the Persona Central site Hirata said this:

“It’s true that 25 years have passed since the last ‘Soul Hackers’ title, but in the grand scheme of things this game is a continuation of the ‘Shin Megami Tensei’, or ‘MegaTen’ series, so I don’t didn’t really feel like it was the first time in 25 years.

Right next to my desk, Shin Megami Tensei V was being developed, while another title was being developed on the other side. I was very aware of how I had to position myself in such a situation.”

We therefore discover that in addition to Shin Megami Tensei V released on November 11, 2021 and Souls Hackers 2 released on August 24, a third title was in development and it’s a safe bet that it will be Persona 6 Indeed, Persona 5 Royal was released last October on Xbox but the game had already been released on PS4 since 2019 in Japan and 2020 internationally.

Taking into account Atlus’ usual schedule, a 2023 release of this next one would be plausible but perhaps too soon, which suggests that an announcement could at least be made next year given that nothing new has been announced in 2022. Nothing concrete to date but data to remember on the sidelines of the coming year which could be rich in novelty on the side of Atlus.
