Moscow says it is “deeply concerned” and calls for avoiding an “escalation of tensions” in Israel, after an attack killed at least 7 people on Friday. A shooting then left at least 2 injured on Saturday.

Russian diplomacy declares itself this Saturday “deeply concerned” and calls on all parties to “maximum restraint” after the attacks in East Jerusalem and while the Russian invasion of Ukraine is still underway.

“We are deeply concerned about this course of events. We call on all parties to exercise maximum restraint and avoid further escalation of tensions,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

“The latest events clearly confirm the need to relaunch a constructive Palestinian-Israeli dialogue and to renounce unilateral actions,” the statement said.

At least 7 dead in East Jerusalem

“We can only put an end to repetitive violence within the framework of a process of negotiations based on the principles of international law,” said Russian diplomacy.

On Friday evening, a 21-year-old Palestinian man shot and killed seven people near a synagogue in East Jerusalem during Shabbat prayers, before being shot dead after a chase.

This attack came the day after an Israeli army raid in Jenin, in the north of the occupied West Bank, which claimed the lives of nine Palestinians.

On Saturday morning, two people, a father and his son, were shot and wounded in East Jerusalem by a 13-year-old Palestinian.
