• Waaoh loyalty cards are sold on the dark net with the identifiers of Auchan customers
  • Hackers use jackpots to shop at brand stores
  • What to do if you are the victim of this theft and how to protect yourself?

The Waaoh loyalty card is supposed to delight Auchan customers by allowing them to accumulate money to then spend to pay for part of their shopping. But for some, it turns into a nightmare.

Computer hackers have indeed managed to steal the identifiers of dozens of Waaoh cards and resell them on the dark net, a hidden space on the web where illegal activities take place.

Hackers can thus access customer pools and empty them by making purchases in Auchan stores. Some have lost hundreds of euros, like Claire who tells on Dealabs website having been robbed of 150 euros intended “for the Christmas meal”. Others suffered greater damage, up to 4,700 euros.

How to know if you are a victim and how to protect yourself?

Do you have a Waaoh Auchan card and are afraid of being scammed? We give you some advice to know if you are one of the victims and how to protect yourself.

First of all, regularly check the balance of your kitty on the Auchan website or application. If you find an anomaly, contact customer service immediately of the brand:

  • by phone on 03 59 30 59 300
  • by email to [email protected]
  • on social networks: Facebook or Twitter

You can also send a letter to Service Clients Groupe Auchan CS 10636 59656 Villeneuve-d’Ascq Cedex.

do not forget to lodge a complaint with the police or the gendarmerie and change your Waaoh card password. Auchan is not obligated to reimburse you, but some customers have been lucky enough to get their money back. The brand may act on a case-by-case basis.

If you haven’t been hit by this scam yet, take these few steps to protect yourself. First, avoid sharing your credentials with third parties. This may seem obvious, but many consumers tend to be negligent on this point.

Change your password: opt for a complex and different password for each site or online service. You can also use a password manager to secure your accounts. Finally, do not click on suspicious links or attachments in your emails or messages.

Finally note that the Waaoh card is not the only one targeted by pirates. Other loyalty cards such as those from Carrefour, Leclerc or Casino are also vulnerable. So be careful not to see your kitty slipping through your fingers.
