Since last Sunday, when the first earthquake was registered at 5:07 pm, in Ahuachapán, the National Civil Protection System has been activated to attend to the families affected by the seismic movements in the western part of the country.

The Minister of the Interior and Territorial Development and president of the National Civil Protection Commission, Juan Carlos Bidegain, said this morning that all the institutions were activated in a matter of minutes, in such a way that while the damage was being verified and whether there were injuries , the National Directorate of Shelters was in charge of enabling safe and dignified shelters for the population.

“Eight shelters were immediately activated, with the capacity of 500 people to attend. We put five in Ahuachapán and three in Santa Ana”, Bidegain assured.

Likewise, care was provided at the site, through the installation of a command center in the areas where there were damages, mobilizing all the institutions of the National Civil Protection System, in charge of the deputy directors of Civil Protection, Fermín Pérez, and the Fire Department, Erick Hernandez.

“We have evacuated nine families and shelters, a total of 28 sheltered people: 13 adults, four older adults and 11 minors,” Bidegain commented.

In addition, a preliminary estimate of “222 homes affected and we have already inspected 182. Of those inspected, repair work has already begun in some with the Ministries of Public Works and Housing,” added.

Until 6:00 am this Tuesday, according to the Ministry of the Environment and Natural Resources, there have been 342 earthquakes focused on the same point; the two main ones: 5.3 and 5.1 in Ahuachapán, last Sunday. While, in addition, other earthquakes have been registered, yesterday, in Soyapango, San Salvador and on Monday morning in La Libertad.
