What if you had missed a scene that could have changed a lot of things? We tell you more about Avengers Infinity War and this content that was removed at the last moment.

A cut scene in a film is nothing new and it is clearly not Marvel who invented the principle. However, in the case of the film Avengers Infinity War, we are talking about one less scene which still has a duration of 45 minutes. Surely a first in the history of cinema, which has something to hold the attention. We tell you everything there is to know about it.

Avengers Infinity War 45 minutes of deleted scene

As reported by the media Collider the YouTube channel Near Mint Condition who specializes in comics had the opportunity to interview Jim Starlin, the creator of Thanos in the comics. Undoubtedly one of the most famous villains in the Marvel Universe. So much so that he is the main antagonist of the last two films Avengers. As we can learn during the interview, Thanos could have had a 45 minute scene but it was ultimately cut in the edit.

A very expensive scene to complete

Indeed in the movie Infinity War, the feature film begins with the destruction of the Asgardian vessel on which Thor, Loki and Hulk are located. The three heroes find themselves facing an overpowered Thanos who already possesses an Infinity Stone. More precisely the Stone of Power that we can see in the film Guardians of the Galaxy on the planet Xandar. The 45-minute scene was intended to show how Thanos came into possession of this Stone with the methodical extermination of the planet and the Nova Corps protecting it. The scene was even shot but for reasons of budget and not to make the film too long, Joe Russo (one of the two directors) wanted to delete it. IIt must be said that 45 minutes in a Disney / Marvel film starts to cost in terms of special effects.

Jim Starlin says about this:

A month before the film was released, I received an email from Joe Russo saying “we had to cut the 45 minutes of Thanos at the start of Infinity War”. They filmed it, but they didn’t want to spend more money on adding the special effects and they didn’t want the movie to be as long as Endgame. They didn’t think Infinity War would be such a hit.

This famous scene could have made it possible to learn more about Thanos and above all to better understand how the big bad got into possession of one of the stones so quickly. It’s always a shame to learn of the removal of such a long scene, especially since it doesn’t appear at all in the film’s bonuses and no one had mentioned it before.

On your side, what do you think of the deletion of such an important scene in an already very massive film?
