The news just came ! Several developers at Playground Games, namely the studio behind Forza Horizon 5 and the Fable reboot, have left home to found a brand new one: Maverick Games. Among these departures are several thinking heads of the successful motorized saga: Mike Brown, who was the creative director, but also Tom Butcher, main producer of Playground Games, or Matt Craven (technical director), Gareth Harwood and Ben Penrose ( artistic directors) and Fraser Stachan (audio director).
Although this news is very recent, note that Maverick Games is already working on a “premium open-world game” for consoles and PC thanks to obtaining “significant” funding.

Bad omens for Fable?
While we don’t know what these massive departures really mean for Playground Games, that obviously doesn’t bode well for the future of Fable. In effect, the studio behind the reboot of Peter Molyneux’s eponymous game – whose development stretches over time – has therefore just lost several of its thinking heads.
Despite everything, Matt Booty, the head of Xbox Game Studios, remains confident about the future of this project and indicated at the end of last year that the team which is in charge of the next Fable is animated by a real passion for the Licence.
