The legal department of the Federal Foreign Office is probably arguing with the visa office in Islamabad (Pakistan) because the officials do not want to issue a visa for a man who allegedly escaped from Afghanistan to enter Germany. According to information from the “Bild” newspaper and “Cicero”, the man named Mohammad G. is said to have presented the diplomats with a forged ID and also paid with counterfeit money. The problem: The supposed ID says that Mohammad G. is 14 years old. Meanwhile, the visa office in Islamabad assumes that the man is more like 20 years old.

The head of the visa law department on the staff of Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock is doing everything in his power to bring the allegedly underage and supposedly seriously ill Afghan to Germany, although his identity has not been clarified. According to the “Bild” research, the visa office suspects that he is neither a minor nor ill and may not even come from Afghanistan.

Mohammad G.’s brother already lives in Germany

Background: Normally, family reunification is limited to spouses, children and parents of minors; Mohammad’s big brother Khan G. has been living in Germany since 2014 and wants to bring his little brother over.

In October 2022, the case was heard before the Berlin Administrative Court, where Khan G. told the story of his alleged 14-year-old brother, who fled Afghanistan to neighboring Pakistan and is now living on the streets. His condition was neglected, he needed urgent medical care, but because he was staying illegally in Pakistan and lacked papers, he was unable to see a doctor.

The representatives of the Federal Foreign Office agreed to the granting of a visa for family reunification “provided that a new security check does not raise any concerns”. As is usual in such cases, the proceedings ended with a settlement.

German Embassy in Islamabad has doubts about the identity of Mohammad G.

But the German embassy in Islamabad refused Mohammad G. the visa because they had doubts about his identity. Because the man, who according to his brother had no papers, suddenly presented a passport that turned out to be a forgery.

Instructions came from Berlin to allow Mohammad G. to enter Germany despite the forged passport. “There is actually no doubt about the identity of the applicant (…), wrong passport or not (…)”, quoted “Bild” from the instruction email from the Foreign Office.

The embassy staff in Islamabad refused. It is not known whether the young man’s real name is Mohammad G., how old he is and whether Khan G. is his real brother. In addition, there are considerable doubts about his fate as a refugee, since Mohhamad G. is probably wearing “expensive western clothing”.

Mohammad G. is suing for family reunification “with foreseeable success”. On January 17, 2023, the federal police took over the investigation. According to a spokesman, Mohammad Ali G. is said to have given “incorrect information” and made a “false affidavit”. According to information from the “Bild” newspaper, the “Mohammad G.” file is now in Berlin. There will be decided “about the further procedure”.

“Anyone who issues a visa despite having a false passport will run through all red lights”

The CDU member of the Bundestag and longtime diplomat Knut Abrahahm was shocked by the case to “Bild”. “Anyone who issues a visa despite having a false passport runs all red lights and harms all Afghans who are in danger and behave correctly.” The Federal Foreign Office has not yet responded to a request from FOCUS online.
