Dresden – How wrong art experts can be. In the program “Bares for Rares Austria” on Servus TV, they completely misjudged the famous Dresden painter Ferdinand von Rayski (1806 – 1890).

A municipal employee from Lower Austria brought von Rayski’s oil painting “Wild Rabbits in the Grass” (73 × 60.5 cm) for an appraisal. TV expert Prof. Erich Tromayer (74), who was once a sworn and court-certified expert, valued the painting at 500 to 600 euros and criticized the lousy condition.

In the end, a TV retailer scammed the painting from the owner for 550 euros in cash.

And after that, a miraculous increase in value began. The dealer sold the rabbits to a colleague for 2000 euros. He had them auctioned off in Vienna. Proceeds: 43,520 euros!

Rayski expert Stefan Günther (64) from the “Art Auction House Günther” to BILD: “The appraiser was wrong. Paintings by the painter von Rayski achieve significantly more.”
