Tennessee.- The murder of Tire Nichols at the hands of five black Memphis police officers is an anti-black act, said Democratic Congressman Maxwell Alejandro Frost.

Elected at the age of 25, he is the first member of Generation Z to hold a seat in the House of Representatives, for Florida.

On his Twitter account, Frost explained that the skin color of the officers who beat the 29-year-old man does not matter, since the attack is the result of a system founded on white supremacy.

“Diversity in the police ranks has not solved the police crisis where black people are the main recipients of brutality and imprisonment,” said the congressman.

He added that “a holistic approach” is necessary to ensure justice in the United States, as well as hold actors within these systems accountable.

“Congress should make it its mission to change the way public safety operates in the country,” he wrote.

Tire Nichols was beaten for three minutes by five police officers, and died three days later in hospital. The officers were fired and charged with manslaughter and other crimes.
