Following a meeting between US President Joe Biden and South Korean leader Yoon Suk Yeol, China has warned Washington and Seoul against “provoking” a “confrontation” with North Korea. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning today called on all parties to work “constructively” for a “peaceful solution” to the conflict on the Korean Peninsula.

She warned against “deliberately stoking tensions, provoking confrontations and emphasizing threats”. Biden and Yoon had issued sharp warnings to North Korea at their meeting in Washington the day before.

Biden said a North Korean nuclear attack on the US or its allies would spell the “end” of the “regime” in Pyongyang. Yoon said a response to a North Korean nuclear attack would include US nuclear weapons.

The conflict with North Korea was one of the central topics in the talks between Biden and Yoon in the White House. The country, which is largely isolated internationally, has aroused great concern in Seoul and Washington over its advancing missile and nuclear program.
