It is a shock for the Berlin SPD: On Sunday, Berliners voted and, for the first time in more than 20 years, elected the CDU to head the state parliament, the House of Representatives. And with a resounding success.

According to the preliminary final result, the CDU increased by 10.2 percentage points (28.2). While the SPD and its top candidate, the previously governing mayor Franziska Giffey, slipped 3.1 percentage points (18.4) and shared second place with the Greens.
