Berlusconi hands over control of his media empire to his 2 eldest sons

Investment company Fininvest, which controls the Mediaset television network, Mondadori publishing house and other assets, confirmed in a statement that “no single shareholder will exercise full direct individual control of Fininvest SpA,” as had been the case with Berlusconi.

The three-time former Italian prime minister and media mogul died on June 12 at the age of 86 after being hospitalized for treatment of chronic leukemia. His will was read on Tuesday in the presence of his five children and other witnesses.

Now, with the shares inherited from their father, Marina and Pier Silvio Berlusconi control 53% of Fininvest.

Berlusconi’s fortune was estimated at 5 billion euros (5.4 billion dollars), which includes Fininvest, which is listed on the stock market and is valued at 2.8 billion euros (more than 3 billion dollars); real estate holdings worth about 700 million euros ($760 million); stocks, works of art and cash, according to the ANSA news agency.

Berlusconi also left 60% of his non-business wealth to Marina and Pier Silvio, his two eldest children from his first marriage, while his three youngest children from his second marriage —Barbara, Eleonora and Luigi— will share the remaining 40%. .

Berlusconi, twice divorced, also left 100 million euros ($109 million) to his partner Marta Fascia, 33, and an equal amount to Paolo, the former president’s brother. He also inherited 30 million euros ($32.6 million) to one of his oldest friends and a former senator from his party, Marcello Dell’Utri, who had been found guilty of having ties to the mafia. . The court said Dell’Utri had acted as a mediator between Berlusconi and a top mob boss, on charges dating back to before Berlusconi was prime minister.

According to a copy of the will published by Italian media, Berlusconi decided in 2006 how his business shares would be distributed. In 2020 he added the parts for his brother, and those for Fascia and Dell’Ultri in January, when he was hospitalized for tests.
