New York.- The US president approved the request for an emergency declaration in the state of New York after the devastating winter storm that caused at least 28 deaths in the state and fifty throughout the country, says a White House statement published this Monday.
Joe Biden’s decision means that the Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Emergency Management Agency will coordinate all relief efforts in order to “save lives and protect property and public health and safety, and to lessen or avert the threat of catastrophe in Erie and Genesee counties”. All activities to deal with the consequences of the storm will have 75% federal funding.
