The president of United States, Joe Bidensaid Sunday that he expects to meet with congressional leaders on Tuesday to discuss a plan to raise the nation’s debt limit and avoid a catastrophic default.

Speaking to the press in Delaware, Biden said that I was still optimistic about the possibility of reaching an agreement.

Biden was scheduled to meet with lawmakers on Friday, but the meeting was postponed.

Biden said he had received an update on how the talks between government staff and their congressional counterparts had gone.

“I continue to be optimistic because I am a born optimist,” Biden said. In his opinion, both parties want to reach an agreement. “I think we’ll be able to do it.”

Biden said he was still scheduled to leave on a trip to Japan this week to attend a meeting of leaders of the G7. His departure was scheduled for Wednesday.
