If you want to explore the old Wettiner Land by bike, you can now use two new, interconnected circular routes. It goes past castles, parks and Wettin Castle.
Excursors and tourists will be able to cycle along new paths through the old Wettiner Land between the Saale and Mulde. After the presentation of the project “Culture Experience Route Wettiner Weg” in Wettin In the Saalekreis district, the integrated circular routes are to be advertised on their own website and portals and then signposted.
Specifically, according to the project management, there are two circular routes around 60 kilometers long that are linked at Petersberg. It is possible to drive shorter circular routes, it said.
The routes all lead past castles and parks in the region – mostly important sites of the architectural and cultural heritage of the Wettins. With a history of more than a thousand years, the noble family is one of the oldest documented families of the German high nobility. It takes its name from Wettin Castle near Halle, which is also on the new route. You can also cycle past the castles and parks in Ostrau and Zörbig as well as many chapels and village churches. It was planned to signpost and describe them with steles along the paths, it said.
According to the information, the basis for the cultural experience route project is a cooperation between the leader regions Unteres Saaletal, Petersberg, Wettin-Löbejün and Zörbig. The aim is to stimulate tourism in the area just outside the city of Halle.
