Microsoft wants to integrate elements of ChatGPT into its search engine Bing. Most recently, the Redmond company invested heavily in the company behind it, OpenAI. In case you overslept the whole thing: ChatGPT is an AI-supported chatbot that can not only provide surprisingly good answers to many questions, but also handles all kinds of tasks for the user. There are now first reports from the preview of the ChatGPT integration in Bing.

So reported the user Owen Yinthat Microsoft later wanted to market the whole thing as “New Bing”. There should be talk of the next evolutionary stage of the search engine. Microsoft probably hopes that Bing will be understood as a research assistant, personal planning tool and creative partner in the future. Strictly speaking, GPT-4, a faster version than the basis of ChatGPT, is to be used.

Bing’s search bar is to be converted into a larger text box. You can then use 1,000 characters there to ask questions that may go beyond simple search queries. So you can add more context to your requests or provide examples of what Bing should deliver to you. In contrast to ChatGPT, which only uses data up to 2021, Bing will be able to access current information.

Bing’s new AI feature will then interpret your search queries and run multiple searches to summarize the best results. The sources from the web should then also be listed – as in the screenshot above. Thanks to GPT-4, Bing should be able to answer more complex queries than Google. For example, if you are looking for a restaurant, you can directly state your eating habits (e.g. vegetarian), your budget, the planned time and the desired location and all of this will be included in the results. Even more, from this information, Bing should give you z. B. can also spontaneously create a meal plan for the week.

As Bing becomes more “creative” thanks to GPT-4, more complex natural language queries are possible. For example, the search engine can write a poem for you if you wish. Bing can actually answer questions in a dialogue to possibly improve the results for you. For example, if you ask about the best films of a certain year, Bing could provide you with an answer and ask whether you are interested in certain genres.

Furthermore, classic search queries should also remain possible via the toolbar. It will certainly be exciting to see whether Microsoft’s search engine loses its meme status with the new functions and can seriously compete with Google. What do you all mean?
