Saturday after Saturday, seven well-known and beloved artists have gathered around the table at Kjerringøy to honor each other with song in the 13th season of Hver gang vi møstes.

Touching stories, surprising moments and friendships have also been made along the way, and several TV viewers have probably pulled on the smiley face or found the handkerchief from it all.

In the last episode of the season, the stay ends with a moment of reminiscence, duets and group singing before the gang say goodbye to each other and the brewery hotel.

During the lunch, the participants share some unknown sides of themselves, and several open their eyes when veteran artist Bjørn Eidsvåg (68) pulls out a sensational story from his student days.

Got into trouble with the police

One Friday evening at the end of the 1970s, Eidsvåg and his student and band friends from the Church Faculty were going out to celebrate the completion of the recording of their debut album, Inn for landing, when a special event happened.

– So there was a period during my studies when I was quite rad. I was in opposition to the authorities and not least the police, he shares in the programme.

The 68-year-old describes the police as “class bastards” at the time.

– It always affected the weakest, drug addicts – those who actually deserved a completely different type of treatment.

In Oslo’s main street, the artist became a bystander when the police were in a scuffle with a man.

– The police caught a drunkard on Karl Johan. They stopped two police cars, and then they just surrounded him. And of course a lot of people came. A lot of people crowded together, and I was one of the lucky ones who stood at the very center of that ring, he says.

But the police patrol did not want Eidsvåg there, and asked him to disappear from there.

– The one policeman says to me: “See to it that you are gone.” Get away from here. Let’s have some peace of mind”. And then I say: “Huh? There are 50-60 of us here, and then I’m going to move?’, he recounts.

Arrested

The singer managed to say “the air is for everyone” before the officer had enough, and waved in three colleagues who took care of the situation.

Before the theology student knew it, he was arrested and thrown into a police car.

– And then it went to Greenland under arrest. And then I was moved from Greenland to Møllergata (Møllergata 19, formerly Oslo’s main police station, journ.anm.).

Setting fire to Kjerringøy: – No words

Eidsvåg sat at the police station almost overnight before he was summoned for questioning.

– The police prosecutor says: “If you accept a fine of NOK 60, then we are done with this,” he recalls.

The musician gave the 60 kroner, which corresponds to around 360 kroner in 2023.

The relatively harmless and mild arrest almost 50 years ago means nothing special to the ring fox to this day.

– It’s not something I’m proud of, but it’s not something I’m ashamed of either. It was the way it was, he concludes.
