The Blekinge trader, through his central role in Ica, must have become aware of the impending deal when Ica was to be bought out of the Stockholm Stock Exchange by the Ica traders’ association and AMF. Through his position, the man had direct access to the bidding process – and he is therefore suspected of having spread that information further.
In a raid shortly thereafter, 13 people were arrested and at the same time mobile phones and computers were seized with content that had been produced during the investigation as evidence against the now indicted traders.
The ICA trader in Blekinge who is believed to have been the original source of the secret business information being leaked writes in an email to several colleagues that he is on his way to Stockholm for a very “eventful” meeting.
“Keep your eyes open for major events in the middle of the week”.
To another, he writes that previous text messages between them must be deleted:
“You and I actually texted each other a bit. Then I thought it doesn’t look very good. I thought I’d go in and delete them.”
The trader is charged with serious insider trading.
