He Republican Party, supporter of maintaining the current Chilean Constitution, swept this Sunday in the constituent elections with 35.6% of the votes and at least the 20 councilors necessary to have veto power in the constitutional body, according to 80% of the scrutiny.
Second was the list Unit for Chile (28%)made up of the majority of the parties that make up the pro-government coalition (the Broad Front of President gabriel boricthe Communist Party and the Socialist Party), while the third position went to the traditional right of the Chile Seguro list (21.6%) and which includes the UDI, Renovación Nacional and Evópoli.

The leader of the Republican Party, José Antonio Kast said this Sunday that “common sense triumphed” and asked “that sectarianism never take over the country again.”
Kast, a supporter of maintaining the current Constitution, pointed out that the citizens have chosen his list for its “commitment and coherence.”
“We achieved an important goal, but it is not time to divide the country, but to work in unity for the good of Chile,” he added.
The Chilean President, gabriel boricasked the Republican Party “to act with wisdom and temperance” after his overwhelming victory in the constituent elections.
On national television, the president also urged “not to make the same mistakes” as the left during the first constitutional process, which failed last September when 62% of Chileans rejected the first Magna Carta proposal.
”The previous process, we must say, failed because we did not know how to listen to each other among those who thought differently. I want to invite the Republican Party now not to make the same mistake that we did,” said the president.
