CDMX.- Diego Boneta debuted his Three Amigos production house with At Midnight, his most recent film, in which he stars alongside Monica Barbaro.

The romantic comedy, which arrives today exclusively on Paramount +, is a love letter to the country that saw the birth of Luis Miguel’s star, La Serie.

“For me, the most important thing is that this is a love letter to Mexico, I can’t think of another Hollywood movie that has been shot here and that shows an authentic and proud country,” Boneta confessed in an interview.

The film, directed by Jonah Feingold, is a production between Mexico and the United States that, for the actor, represents an opportunity to open a unilateral gap between the two countries to make more feature films together.

“The team was indispensable, mostly Mexicans, it was a great learning experience, it is not the first project in which I have worked as a producer, but it is the first to be done from my production house.

“The merger of the two nations is what makes this project so interesting,” he said.

At Midnight tells the story of Sophie (Barbaro), a movie star who, upon arriving at a hotel in Mexico, run by Alejandro (Boneta), will face a series of events that will make her discover love.

“I feel very identified with my character, the way he tries to do his job well and the choices he makes. How he tries to find a place in such a difficult industry,” Barbaro said.

The Top Gun: Maverick actress said she learned a lot from her partner, who wrapped her up and made her feel welcome, and from Mexico.

“He (Boneta) is incredible, I learned a lot, it was an adventure to be able to come to Mexico and always be able to do this with him,” she added.

The chemistry, very important for the stars, occurred, according to what they said, from the first moment they met by video call.

“For the director and for me, chemistry was important, which is the key to romantic comedies. She was the first with whom I read the script and we knew it was her, it was instantaneous,” said the actor from The Age of Rock.

As a process to adapt to their characters, the singer also said that he brought the American to meet Mexico City.

“We spent a lot of time together, we spent several days in Mexico City. I took her to my favorite restaurants, that was important to get to know each other better.

“I think we were lucky to have a lot of chemistry from the beginning. We met on zoom, which seemed difficult but it worked,” he added.

Three Amigos is a film and television production company founded by Diego and his sister, Natalia González Boneta.
