Boniface Alexandre, former provisional president of Haiti, dies

Prince Port.- Boniface Alexandre, former provisional president of Haiti, died this Friday at his private residence in Port-au-Prince at the age of 87, after an illness he had suffered for several years.

Boniface Alexandre held the presidency between February 29, 2004 and May 14, 2006, after the forced departure of President Jean Bertrand Aristide, as a result of intense violent demonstrations in the country.

The father of four children, three boys and one girl, Boniface was well known in the Haitian underworld for his skills and experience as a lawyer.

The country’s prime minister, Ariel Henry, expressed his regret over the death of the former president on social networks with the following message:

“The death of the former provisional president of the Republic, Me Boniface Alexandre, deeply saddens me. The nation is losing a great servant of the State, a brilliant lawyer and jurist, an eminent professor of civil law and civil procedure.”

Likewise, he described Boniface as “a man of integrity, of great morality and who endorsed republican values. With rigor and modesty, he had dedicated almost a lifetime to the service of the litigants and the justice of his country ».

“On behalf of the Haitian people and my government, I offer my condolences to his family, relatives and former collaborators shocked by this loss,” Henry added.
