Agents of the Coast Guard (USCG) and the Customs and Border Protection Department (CBP) of the United States unloaded this Monday in Miami a shipment of drugs valued at more than $12 million dollars.

A post on Twitter from the USCG indicated that it is more than 717 pounds of cocaine and 2,640 pounds of marijuanathe result of anti-drug raids in maritime areas, although the authorities did not provide further details about its seizure.

“Drug raid. Today, crew members of the USCG Cutter Margaret Norvell (WPC-1105) and CBP offloaded more than 717 pounds of cocaine and 2,640 pounds of marijuana in Miami, FL. He smuggling it was worth over $12 million,” the tweet revealed.

Last Saturday, a person boating in the Florida Keys found a brick of 2.7 pounds of cocaine valued at $41,000according to a report from the Miami Sector of the Border Patrol (USBP).

At the beginning of July, members of that same US agency they seized 62 pounds of cocaine and 87 pounds of hashish with a combined value of $1.4 million dollarsduring an operation in the keys.

The USBP considered that the operation was a significant blow against the drug trafficking networks and reinforced the commitment of the security forces in the fight against drug trafficking in the region.

Last June, Coast Guard offloaded 14,153 pounds of cocaine in Miami with a value of more than 186 million dollars. The drug was intercepted during nine different operations in international waters of the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean.

Drug smuggling in the United States is subject to laws and regulations that impose severe penalties for those who engage in illicit trafficking-related activities. These include the Law on Controlled Substances, the Law on Drugs, the Law on Organized Crime and Control of racketeering and Law on Confiscation of Assets Derived from Criminal Activities.
